For an “actual challenge to gender roles and sexual politics” read this book.
New track from Childish Gambino’s upcoming mixtape.
Heeeeeeems what are you doing with Gambino? I want to believe that you are awesome and not a sexist asshole and wouldn’t hang out with a guy like Donald Glover. :(
Ugh yeah seriously. Glad to see you already blogged about their oh-so-bizarre collaboration on Womyn. Thanks Think Progress, for cataloguing the misogyny in CG’s music (in case there’s any shadow of a doubt) and the facepalm phenomenon of “pop culture geeks who feel a combination of resentment and entitlement towards women.” It’s real and it’s not attractive.
You know what is though? Everything the 1491s do to show love for the native women in their lives. I’m pretty sure I’ll never post about Donald Glover this fondly. Or watch all his videos. Or get excited if I run into him on Montrose. Or do any of the other things I do when I have an internet crush.
Even though this song is kind of cool, I have no desire to buy it. Or go to any of Childish Gambino’s angry boy sausagefest concerts. BLEAH.
And because I’m so mad and too much is at stake here, I’m gonna apply the mouthwash principle and be very explicit about what I’m trying to say with this post:
- When you hate women, women (obv) really don’t like you back.
- The 1491s are sexy.
- Heems is sexy.
- Misogyny is bad for business.
I know and love this version of “Snowfall” by Esquivel. And after looking up different versions, I realized that Psyche Origami sampled the original by Claude Thornhill for “Dead Right.” Mind. Blown.
As of May 10, there have been more than 200 local government resolutions for a constitutional amendment ensuring that corporations are not considered people under the law. These are passing at the rate of approximately one a day.
100 members of Congress currently back a constitutional amendment.
85 national organizations back an amendment.
At the state level, Hawaii, New Mexico and Vermont have passed an anti-Citizens United resolution…
First, Pennsylvania made it illegal for doctors to tell their patients which fracking chemicals they were exposed to.
And now Kansas wants doctors to withold information about abortions from pregnant women.
WTF.
Senator Bernie Sanders and Rep. Keith Ellison just introduced a bill to end ALL fossil fuel subsidies. Give them the support they need to pass it and end this wasteful, dangerous spending by signing this petition from 350.org
Let’s make it happen!
